Indian Premier League 2014

The Indian Premier League, or as some would like to address it as the Cricket Carnival is back in the subcontinent and is in tremendous flow with a lot of new exciting surprises keeping viewers hooked to their TV sets. There was much ado about the Pepsico IPL Schedule 2014 schedule before the start of the event with critics complaining about too much of cricket being played which can fatigue players in the long run. The short version of the game has added a lot of color to cricket itself especially after the involvement of Bollywood superstars in the event. The Pepsi IPL fixture was declared back in the month of January after the auction held at Bangalore. The IPL 2014 Schedule is considered to be a lot more hyped than other tournament time tables owing to the fact that cricket crazy India always tends to promise a better turn out at the stadiums than any other countries in the world. The indian premier league schedule has been carefully designed to ensure optimum crowd turnout and the months of April-May are considered to be the time of the year when cricket in India is played at its best. Top four teams from IPL Points Table will enter playoff/semi final round.

This will be the 22nd match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2014 played in Bangladesh. The match will be held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. Bangladesh with two wins under its belt is sitting pretty in the top slot of Group 1 and are well versed with the conditions in Bangladesh. They have quality spinners like Seranayake and Ajantha Mendis as well as best T20 death bowler Lasith Malinga in their side. Their batting strength is also very good with the likes of Perrera, Dilshan, Jayawardane, Sangakkara and Mathews in their team.

India vs Bangladesh

India vs Bangladesh

India has not gelled as a unit yet in the T20 format and despite having good and in-form players like Martin Lumb, Moen Ali, Ravi Bopara and Eoin Morgan, they are not able to get the upper hand of their opposition. Bangladesh looks to be a formidable side in this tournament and would be eyeing another win in their third match of the Group stages to make them worthy of the semi-final spot. Bangladesh would be winning this tie against India, but will have to fight hard to earn their victory.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

This should be an exciting match between the two teams who have proven themselves worthy of having equal chance of winning the final battle. Pakistan are a bit better in bowling while Sri Lanka have won matches due to their depth in batting. However on paper, Pakistan is a more balanced team that has an ideal combination of spin and pace bowling. Talha is a recent discovery who has shown promising signs and his role will be very crucial in today’s match. Umar Gul is an experienced player, but he collapses under pressure situations. It would be better to start attack from Junaid Khan. Sri Lanka will be hoping that their top order is able to resist Pakistan’s bowling but their performance in the last match against Bangladesh has been very disappointing. They need to concentrate on good partnerships from the start.

Toss will be important for both the teams due to the dew factor. If this is not a batting wicket, both teams would go for bowling first. Pakistan captain is a cautious player who loves to make his strategy after he knows how much score to chase. He is prone to opt for bowling if toss goes to his favor. This is not a good strategy because every decision should be taken according to the nature of the pitch. He should learn to take risks in cricket.

Squads:

Pakistan Squad:
Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Misbah-ul-Haq (c), Sohaib Maqsood, Fawad Alam, Abdur Rehman, Shahid Afridi, Umar Akmal (w), Umar Gul, Mohammad Talha, Saeed Ajmal, Sharjeel Khan, Anwar Ali, Bilawal Bhatti, Junaid Khan.

Sri Lanka Squad:
Kushal Janith Perera, Lahiru Thirimanne, Kumar Sangakkara (w), Mahela Jayawardene, Ashan Priyanjan, Angelo Mathews (c), Chaturanga de Silva, Thisara Perera, Sachithra Senanayake, Ajantha Mendis, Suranga Lakmal, Dinesh Chandimal, Lasith Malinga, Dhammika Prasad.

In the Angelo Mathews era, Sri Lanka continue to gather strength with their newfound unity, producing a series of relatively consistent performances culminating in the recent ODI whitewash against Bangladesh. Mahela Jayawardene missed that three-game series but returns for this tournament and will strengthen the middle order while Kusal Perera’s claims to replace Sanath Jayasuriya at the top of the order continue to grow.

Similarly, Pakistan are in decent form. As well as ousting the Sri Lankans in their January ODI series, they beat South Africa in South Africa. But Misbah-ul-Haq was coy about their overall chances
